Hi everyone, I'm starting to print the parts to assemble a G1000NXI as I looked at the schematics for the wiring it shows that the led for the switches are using 5 ohm resistors in a daisy chain of 3 switches. When I saw the video on YouTube I never saw Karl using resistors in the wiring or the breakout board and just want to confirm that they need to be used because I already got them anyways.
Thanks,
Rolando
I have another question. I see that there is a 5v connected to the grounds, Is that actually correct ?? Right now none of my buttons or encoders are working and I haven't connected the 5v because it show that is on the GND. Didn't want to short anything and don't know if the arduino will be fried. Thanks in advance, I'm new to this stuff.
Yes! The resistors are not used to change the voltage but limit current. This is especially important using the cheap dimmers from ebay. Ideally i used 1 Ohm resistors over 4 Leds connected in series. Trust me when i saw there is nothing worse then blowing all your leds in one go by a simple wirinf mistake or a current surge on inital power application! I have to admit many people have reported they have not used them. I was always taught in my electrical theory, a resirot must always be used with an LED. So I do. Old Skool.
Kind Regards, Karl
