Hi Karl
Thanks a lot for this new great design.
But i have an issue, i ordered the LCD screen that is in the parts list and it doesn't fit.
I saw in the build guide (step 36) that there's a lip on the screen.
I think that the screen described in the parts list is not the right one (no lip, wider than the space available in the assembly and the holes to mount the driver and menu boards don't fit)
I had to make an adapter board to mount the 'driver' board as it's different with being rectangular and mount holes centered on each end. Easy fix. Hope this all works!
Hello! I got the LTD104EDZS from AliExpress but have found the following:
* The vertical viewing angle is pretty ordinary from below, so if you mount the screen upside down and are sitting above it (which I will be) you can't see it very well to the point of it being unusable
* I mounted mine right-way-up but this has the side effect of offsetting the screen behind the G1000 bezel - there is a slight bezel on the bottom of the screen, which is accounted for if you mount it upside down, but no such luck if you mount it right-side-up. You lose the top 1cm or so of screen.
* When mounting it right side up, the side mounts don't work very well and need to be adjusted - I had to drill some extra holes to hold it in place. No big deal.
* There are two versions of this screen. I think the one in the vid has a blue driver board with a noticeable toroidal inductor on it - I think maybe it is advertised as having audio on it?. This I think is what the driver board mount is for. I wasn't so lucky and ended up with the one with the green driver board, so mine didn't quite line up properly, and ended up with only one screw on it.
Top project though - am having a blast putting it all together!
I bought 2 of those, they are IPS and have a better viewing angle:
I adapted the frame to accomodate the screens using Tinkercad and did a few other mods. The keys don't click in, so I decreased the distance of the rim so it fits. Not finished yet, but getting closer.
Update:
After taking my G1000 apart the screen I received was an: LTD104EDZS
This retails for £52/70USD on eBay and with a driver £80.
I have updated the link but I have no idea how long it will stay current
I will wait to see what LCD arrives from my last order. it's going to be a pain to have two G1000's for two different screens. But it looks like my original one is a lot harder to obtain now.
Kind regards Karl
Good Morning Chris,
Thank you for letting me know and this is why I actually hate putting links on the website. I have no control over what they link to post the issue date. I checked my eBay account and the link is correct, but I can clearly see the screen is different. I have searched a lot for the same screen I have but can not find one similar so far.
I too have just purchased a second screen from this link last week to create a second unit for my Heli sim. At worse, I will have to redesign the unit to fit around the new screen when it arrives.
I will now spend some time trying to find the exact screen I had as it fitted perfectly into the g1000 size.
I can only apologise for this, and this really makes me want to stop putting links on the website.
Kind Regards Karl
