Hi Karl and everyone else building the MTU. I've finally printed my trim wheels and not to happy with the rear face where the support was. I'd like to know if those that have printed the trim wheels, the black part, if you guys used support? Is it necessary to use support on that part of the trim wheel? Also, and this is a question for Karl, I notice there are screw holes and recesses in the black part of the trim wheel and the trim handle that eludes to possibly a spring loaded function or something else but I don't see any mention of it on the build guide. Would love to hear what it was originally designed for.
Regards
I used the Hagmans filler, sanded and painted with black (Shinegrade 45) (half shiny) turned out rely nice
not sure yet, I want to try the finer sand paper, 800 and maybe up to 1500 if I can find it, then maybe clear coat.
as soon as I get a result I'll post it here
Hi Ido, thanks for your feedback. Will you spray it now?
I think I need to go up to 800, but it already looks a lot better
Hey
I also just finished printing the first about 2 hours ago,
and I also didn't like how the back looked, so I just took my orbital sander, and went from 80 up to 400, and now it looks great.
just make sure you move all the time so the PLS doesn't not get hot.
Thanks Karl, I used the support settings as in your build guide. Just wondered if they were really necessary. Filament is relatively cheap, it's just the time it takes to try another way of printing them, hence my question. Do you have any drawings or documentation of how you were going to do the retract mechanism? Will appreciate anything you do have and once again, thank you kindly for all you have put into this. It's been a fantastic journey building this and I have family and friends in awe with all the pieces coming together slowly.
Regards
Hi George,
That sounds like you may have not dailled in your support settings. However, the back of the trim wheels you can not see.
The screw holes were for a retract spring, but i never used it in the end.
The holes cam by directly coping a real trim wheel.
