Hello Guys,
I was looking to some initial guide to build a FMC , search on the site found some posts about people who bought the FMC Files for printing and the FMC Files do be printed also but I couldn't found anything else about this. For instance, do I need a PCB to build it ? is it made using Arduino ? there's something like this on the site and I missing it ?
thanks and have a nice day
if u using simvim u can look it up ; https://homecockpitsoft.wordpress.com/2020/08/07/fms-mcdu-predefined-matrix-configuration/
Another option is 3D print one of the free ones on Thingiverse, get a small 5" HDMI screen off Amazon/eBay and then to wire it bust open a keyboard and trace out the contacts. Every CDU can be be completely run off a normal keyboard using numbers, letters, and then some of the symbols. If you wired the keyboard control board to tactile switches the computer will see it as just a normal keyboard. Not sure where you are from but around here at some of the salvage type shops you can source a keyboard for $1usd. Not that arduino's are expensive but it's one less to buy and one less to program.
Great news Karl, you are THE guy
Hi Lucas, if you want a cheap arduino 3d printed FMC, please wait a week or two. I am designing it right now after the screens arrived yesterday. No pcb, but there will be a fair bit of wiring until I get the pcbs sorted in the future.
Well, regarding the sim, the answer looks a bit weird, I have X-plane 11 and also P3Dv5 . The thing is that I'm migrating, When I want to fly 747 for instance, I use the P3D because I love PMDGs models. When I want to fly 737 , now is Xplane because of Zibo but I like the PMDG 737 indeed.
I had a look at simvin, but as far as I understand, to connect the componets to arduino mega you need another board between then . I really newby to this and don't understand that much..
Do you know any guide on how to wire the thing ? is it possible to use with Arduino and Mobiflight or just with simvin ?
thanks
Which flight sim program are you running? SimVim has a method of connecting the FMC/CDU to X-Plane. I built a pcb for the FMC that would have utilized MobiFlight. Unfortunately I have not been successful in getting MobiFlight to play nicely with X-Plane so I have abandoned that route .
I am currently redesigning the pcb to work with SimVim. It looks very promising. You actually do not need a pcb if you are willing to hand wire the switch matrix. I think the pcb makes for a much cleaner and nicer end product.
