Just discovered your website and am having a great time reading through it and getting ideas for my build! Quick question, to u mention that your CNC Machine is too small and you would recommend a 60 x 60 working area. Would smaller ones work such as 30 x 18 or do you really need a larger area for the parts?
Thanks!
Thank you for the reply! I have recently just picked up an Ender 3 3D printer and am loving it so far! Will probably be cutting out panels and such by hand to start but would love to get a CNC machine at some point.
Hi Casey,
If your going to build your own CNC, which i highly recommend as its a simple process and you get a much bigger work area for your money. 30x18 would work for most panels, but the only panel i cannot create on my machine is the MCP. 60 x 60 would be the minimum i would recommend if you want to build other things. This is because you buy sheet wood in 4 x 8ft (120cm by240cm). This means you can cut it into squares perfectly that fit in your machine. Owning a CNC has opened up a whole new world outside of the sim. The only reason i have not gone bigger, is because this is the biggest size i can get through the post.
Just remember, the bigger you go, the bigger rails need to be. I would also suggest using aluminium box section to build the cnc for extra strength. But this will increase the price.
I hope that helps, its just my opinion, and small is fine to get started, and its a great skill to have.
Kind Regards
Karl
