In your blog and other places you mention both PLA and ABS filaments. I didn't see which type you prefer for say, printing the throttle quadrant. Which do you think works best?
The other problem with ABS besides having to get your settings spot on is that it HAS to be in an enclosure when printing as it gives off toxic fumes. Best to also have in a well ventilated room as well for when you open the enclosure.
I'm new to 3d printing but I've been getting great results so far using tough PLA. I tried some Polymaker PolyMax PLA which was really good but quite expensive. I also tried Formfutura Tough PLA which was also really good and quite a bit cheaper.
Thank you for the tips. I've been experimenting with different filament and was thinking about PETG. I was wondering if ABS might not be strong enough for 737. I use VR now and I tend to be more heavy handed now for some reason.
In my personal opinion, stay away from ABS for the large throttle prints. Perhaps some of the structural parts could be ABS if you find yourself heavy handed like me. Generally use PLA, its easier to work with. PETG is mentioned a lot by fellow builders as a good alternative as its stronger than PLA, but easier to print.
ABS warps really easy if the settings and environment is not perfect. I have an enclosure that helps regulate the temperature, but getting it right has taken a lot of trial and error.
If you are building parts like the controls, that involve quite heavy forces, i think ABS is better suited. However, all my prototypes were in PLA.
