I’m kind of a project starter and have been a little less of a project finisher as I still have to connect my TQ to the arduino and program mobiflight, and I’m still
waiting for the new EFIS version to finish the one I started earlier this summer. But since a lot of these prints take a long time, it’s kind of fun to keep trying new things.
first things first: the Ender Extender!! I now have a twin-screw z-axis 400x400x200 3v2 printer so I can print big stuff!! Crazy installation, not really for the faint of heart if you had a working printer and have to tear it down to this:

and now, my next trick will be the FMC! There is a problem with adhesion on this extender because the heating pad is the same size as the original 200x200 bed. They sell a 400x400 upgrade but it’s sold out at the moment for us 120v people.
I bought the laser etched button tops from CockpitSimParts that arrived yesterday. I think they’ll look the best for my purposes.

here’s the face place with a couple of the pieces that glue in. Looks sooooo good!!

eBay buttons and 5” lcd screen are ordered and will arrive at some point.
Good news, bad news. Big opportunity professionally that involves a cross country move. But I’ll have to put sim building on hold until we are settled. Stuff in boxes 😢 getting ready to go.
Mine up and running. Did not wire the lights on buttons, why the missing knob!
Ok, revisit. Using pcb. Absolutely beautiful work. Loading buttons and watching premiere league from the USA
These stupid buttons are definitely you-get-what-you-pay-for!!
Doh. Ok, don’t get your heat gun too close to your PLA pieces!!
Under the heading of “why didn’t I do this sooner” I got a glass bed for the extender and it’s made a world of difference from the magnetic metal base in terms of ease of tramming. Now printing letter button bases all at once and adhesion looks really good.
Upper action buttons put together and plugged onto the back board! They’re a bit wobbly but I think they’ll get all their support from the face plate so I’m not worried about it.
Wow, the lcd screen and buttons got here from China very quickly!! Couldn’t resist starting to fit some stuff together.
One thing is that the ribbon cable of the lcd I got is a little too far to the left so it’s binding. I guess i can carve out some space before getting it installed.
Hi Steve,
You are the second person i have heard of to use the ender extender. Afterall the qulity of prints from the ender i think is awesome. A 400 x 400mm is even bigger than i have! It puts a smile on my face when i see people print the FMC. A lot of thought went it to that design, and some of the prints that people show me look fantastic! I look forward to more updates Steve!
