Hi Karl, anyone else interested
Thought I would point this out in case anyone else has the issue. The Inner Backplate holes for the Lower EFIS Shafts are a different size one is 12mm and the other 12.4 hence why i cant fit one ,...lol. The female spline was so difficult to get printed with the serrated inner that I change to a solid and pushed over my encoder splines which were 5.5 mm.
I would say that the text on the faceplate is too small for 0.4mm nozzle as you have used 02 so increased the size adequately to support a 0.4.Can I also add that the Top Tactile switch housings leave little room for wiring. unless you put the wire in first then pull the wire and tactile into place.
These are not complaints btw, just notices and suggestions for anyone else in a similar situation.
I've yet to complete the build and still WIP as getting the gears to mesh is rather tight, maybe a bit of filing will do the trick. Oh and I've tried 3 different printers Ender 3V2, CR10s, and Ender 5 Plus. just in case it was me. Wish I had a Resin Printer now..lol Great work.
Sorry for bringing back a old post, as I know Karl was busy moving which is totally understandable but has there been any confirmation on efis v5 successful and build guide updates? Just was curious as that is my next project soon!
so looking forward to this one Karl , I’ve played around with the old one but it’s so stiff in places..I’ve tried 4 times now and just about given up … waiting on your update, thanks and looking great..
Nearly there guys, Hopefully, you can see how many test prints this has taken to perfect the design. I am currently playing with 0.05mm tolerenaces. But the operation is a million times smoother and better!
Hi Karl,
Never thought you would forget and always understood how busy you might be …
Many thanks for the update, its really nice to see how the deign is progressing.
Hi Guys,
i have not forgotten about this and it now has my undivided attention for the remainder of the day. I have been so busy. Let me show you where we are at:
The lowe axis shafts have been printed and tested. A much better design!
Not surprised, I don't think they're perfectly round either, measurements seem to change a bit depending on where you measure them.
Yes Andy , mine average 5.92 as well although I did have one at 5.72 lol, odd one out. Looking forward to V6..
Checked calibration all looking good. The diameter of the rotary switch splined shaft is 5.92 mm
HI Guys,
Just a fraction to large in dimeter, I can feel the splines rubbing against each other as the gear is rotated. The 22 and 16 tooth gears form V5 EFIS are a perfect fit for me.
Hi Karl, this fits in length but would say that its a loose fit diameter by maybe 0.2mm but that could be my calibration.
Hello Guys, Im just redesigning the whole efis. Could I ask you to print this gear and tell me how well it fits onto a splined rotary switch? For me, it's perfect! You will need to print it so the open end is up, on a raft, support on. 0.4mm nozzle, and 0.2mm layer height. 20 min print.

Hi Karl, That is indeed a massive change and looking so much more easier to build. Looking forward to building this one. Thanks for all your time and effort - very much appreciated.
The Core has changed to this:
The outer case changed to this, Simpler and much quicker to print. It also allows quick adjustment of the core.
The first Big change is to split the box differently to make it easier to print, and minimise any warping:
Hey Guys,
I have just finished work, Please bare with me while I carry out a massive EFIS update, I am looking at the design now, and i am making it much easier to print and build. I will try to build along with you guys as i test the parts.
@mikeyboy4255 thanks, hope that worked. |I attempted to do the same, but Fusion not uploading any files - another issue for me to resolve :-)
Karl, mikeyboy4255 Sorry, yes, I meant inner backplate. Mine is a one piece item, not like the two piece you have shown. I have downloaded the EFIS V5 files using the download link contained within the email sent on the 6th Feb, it's single piece inner backplate "(8)Inner Backplate v2.stl"
Karl my EFIS I downloaded recently was V5 and it doesn’t show a split plate! I have a whole plate, I will check the file again to make sure I’m still not using the members V4 which I thought I had deleted..
The reason I ask this, I seem to have split the back plate Left and right. This was a while ago now.
