Bring authentic analogue instrumentation to your Cessna 172 simulator with this highly‑detailed 3" Airspeed Indicator (ASI) gauge. Designed from the ground up for realism, reliability, and ease of assembly, this gauge has quickly become a favourite among sim builders.
As Karl perfectly put it:
“It’s simple, it works, and it looks the business when operating.”This download contains STL files, CAD files, and decals only.
No physical or electronic components are included.
✨ Key Features
Accurate Zero‑Position Homing
The gauge uses a microswitch to reliably home the needle to zero on startup, ensuring consistent operation every time.
Mobiflight Compatible
Fully supported by Mobiflight, allowing straightforward calibration and integration with your existing sim setup.
Backlight‑Ready Design
Engineered to be beautifully backlit.
Because the real C172 ASI uses four perimeter bulbs rather than rear backlighting, this design mimics that behaviour. The decal is intentionally undersized so a 12V LED strip can illuminate the face from the edges—producing an authentic analogue glow.Modular Construction
Printed in simple, easy‑to‑assemble sections, making it ideal for beginners and advanced builders alike.
Flexible Decal Options
Includes a printable decal sheet.
You can:
- Print the decal on a standard inkjet printer, or
- Use a multicolour 3D printer and slicer‑paint the components for a highly realistic look.
Functional Adjustment Knob (for Show)
The front adjustment knob is non‑functional in this version. It does not currently drive the temperature scale.
Before purchasing, consider browsing for community remixes. Some creators may have added a functional temperature scale and operable knob.

- DIY flight training rigs
- Builders wanting a realistic, mechanical‑motion gauge without commercial‑grade cost
The design balances real‑world authenticity, DIY practicality, and 3D‑printing accessibility.
Limitations
- The adjustment knob is decorative only.
- Requires basic electronics knowledge for backlighting and Mobiflight motor integration.
- Not designed as a replica for certified training devices—this is for enthusiasts and home cockpit builders.
🎨 Inspiration
This model is inspired by the Cessna 172 analogue ASI, recreated with attention to scale accuracy and the operational feel of classic steam‑gauge flight instruments.
