Bring authentic Cessna vernier control to your home cockpit.
This mixture lever replicates the real Cessna push‑pull mechanism and the fine micro‑adjust action. Press the integrated button to freely push/pull to any setting for rapid changes; release the button and rotate the knob clockwise/anti‑clockwise to trim the mixture with precise vernier control. At the rear, a 10KΩ linear potentiometer provides a smooth, reliable analogue output for your favourite simulator.Designed to fit my C172 instrument panel, this unit is also suitable for many GA cockpit builds and custom panels.
What makes it essential
- Dual‑mode operation like the real aircraft: quick coarse adjustment + true vernier fine tuning.
- Realistic feel & travel: engineered to deliver consistent resistance and repeatability.
- Simulator‑ready output: standard 10K linear pot works with common interface boards and USB controllers.
- Modular files: CAD + STL supplied for easy printing, editing and integration.
Use & Context
Perfect for MSFS 2024, X‑Plane, and other flight sims in home cockpit or training environments. Pair it with your throttle/prop controls to complete a faithful Cessna 172 engine control stack. Intended for simulation use only (not certified for real aircraft).
What’s included
- CAD files for Fusion 360 editing and STEP export (for advanced users).
- Printable STL set for the lever, knob, push button and mounting components.
- Build/Parts/Print Guide: step‑by‑step instructions, parts list and assembly tips are available here:

Assembly & Tools
- Standard hand tools required, including a file and M4 tap & die.
- Mount the 10KΩ linear potentiometer at the rear and wire to your chosen controller/interface.
- Minor fitting/finishing may be necessary depending on printer tolerances and hardware.
Printing Recommendations
- Material: PETG or ABS for heat resistance and durability; PLA for quick prototyping.
- Layer height: 0.20–0.25 mm (0.16 mm for the knob/push button if you want crisper threads).
- Infill: 40–60% for structural parts; 100% for small threaded or load‑bearing inserts.
- Perimeters: 3–4 walls; enable supports only where needed for overhangs on internal features.
Compatibility
- Designed around a C172 panel footprint; should adapt to many GA layouts with minor bracket tweaks.
- Works with common breakout boards, USB joystick controllers, and DIY interface solutions using 10K analogue inputs.
Originality & Inspiration
This is an original engineering design created to emulate the Cessna vernier mixture control with both coarse push‑pull and micro‑adjust twist functions. Inspiration comes from the tactile feel and mechanical logic of real Cessna cockpit controls. If you publish a remix, please credit the source design and share your improvements with the community.
Limitations
- Print quality, material choice and hardware accuracy will affect feel and precision.
- Not an FAA‑approved or aircraft‑grade component; simulation only.
- Panel fit may require minor shimming/filing depending on your specific build.
